Gracie Self Defense Online

SelfDefense

The first part of the Gracie Self Defense curriculum is now online. An important part of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, the self-defense curriculum consist of a list of defenses to common attacks. Effectively Attack from Mount!

Americana From Mount

Attacking from mount is not the easiest thing to do. If you’re going to finish an opponent it’s one of the best positions to do it from, but first you need to get there. That requires a takedown or sweep plus passing the guard which is no easy feat. After that you need to establish mount and maintain it long enough to finish your opponent. So what’s the point? You’ve already done a ton of work, don’t rush and waste it! As with all advanced positions before being able to effectively attack you need to be able to control the position. If you mount but only maintain it for a few seconds before being rolled back to guard your odds of success are not very good. On the other hand if you can stick your opponent there and they can’t get out, you can attack repeatedly until one of your attacks succeeds! With that in mind we’ve created two suggested list, the basics focusing on control and simple / safe attacks. Once you’ve mastered the first list, work on the second to crush more advanced defenses! Why Grappling Knowledge?

GKSearchImg

With YouTube and all the other instructional sites popping up why create another? Between Wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu I’ve spent about 15 years of my life training and still have so much to learn. The ultimate challenge that the grappling arts present is extremely addictive and gratifying. No excuses or other people to blame, just you versus your opponent. You have to combine your physical ability with technique, strategy and mental toughness to come out on top. Weather your goal is takedowns, throws or submissions there are so many ways to solve the puzzle. To get good you not only need to train hard, but smart as well. When searching online for new techniques I kept running into the same problems. YouTube has a ton of information but you need to sort through a lot of crap, also the purely text based search is kind of worthless for grappling. Some of the other instructional sites that have popped up try to fix these problems, but their designs leaves a lot to be desired and most have a very narrow perspective. Grappling Knowledge was designed to fix all these issues and provide you the best learning tool to make you better! Continue reading

I first met and trained with Brady back in 09, I was extremely impressed by his skill with leg attacks. He’s now sharing his knowledge with you! His first set of videos are now available, check them out and you’ll see exactly what I’m talking about!

When Grappling Knowledge first launched we realize the site was very gi heavy. We are diligently working on filling in the no-gi curriculum, including leg locks and much more.
