Why Grappling Knowledge?

With YouTube and all the other instructional sites popping up why create another? Between Wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu I’ve spent about 15 years of my life training and still have so much to learn. The ultimate challenge that the grappling arts present is extremely addictive and gratifying. No excuses or other people to blame, just you versus your opponent. You have to combine your physical ability with technique, strategy and mental toughness to come out on top. Weather your goal is takedowns, throws or submissions there are so many ways to solve the puzzle. To get good you not only need to train hard, but smart as well. When searching online for new techniques I kept running into the same problems. YouTube has a ton of information but you need to sort through a lot of crap, also the purely text based search is kind of worthless for grappling. Some of the other instructional sites that have popped up try to fix these problems, but their designs leaves a lot to be desired and most have a very narrow perspective. Grappling Knowledge was designed to fix all these issues and provide you the best learning tool to make you better!

First Grappling Knowledge is not a Jiu-Jitsu, Wrestling or Judo site, it’s a grappling site. Regardless of how good you are, if you’ve only trained one grapping style and go to fight MMA you’ll realize there are holes in your game. Each grappling art has its own strengths, cross training between various styles can only make you better! There is also the issue of body type, light weights and heavy weights generally use different techniques and strategies that play to their physical abilities. Our goal is to bring together a long list of the best instructors across the various styles showing you what they do best!

The best instruction is still only moderately useful without a way to find the information you’re looking for. Our custom learning platform is the first designed from the ground up allowing you to quickly and easily find exactly what you want. Grappling Knowledge is broken up into three main categories: classes, flow drills and a large database of individual techniques. If you’re looking for more structure, maybe an overview of a position or attack series, the classes are a good place to start. Here our world class instructors break down positions and setups that they like to use and give you a strategy to work on. Or you can search our technique library if you’re looking for something more specific. Earlier I mention my dislike of a text search for grappling. With the exception of Judo we don’t have naming conventions; almost every move has a long list of different names depending on where you train. Instead our search is based on things we can all agree on and understand. Searching by grappling art, position and move type allow you to quickly dial in your search to find exactly what you’re looking for. You can also add in an instructor filter, difficulty range or text search and get really specific. This simple to use yet extremely powerful search gives you the answers you need right away even if you didn’t know exactly what you were looking for.

Finally I want to discuss our technique web which acts as your own virtual black belt! This addresses another of my major problems with other online sites. A single technique is only somewhat useful. After you learn the basics, grappling is all about setups and flow from one techniques to the next. There is not one right answer, so we give you a list to choose from. Whenever you’re viewing a technique on our site you’ll have several options at the bottom of the page: a list of moves that flow out of your current technique, a list that gets you there as well as variations and counters. Finally, a place where you can learn a takedown from a world class wrestler and with one click learn how to effectively pass the guard from one of our Jiu-Jitsu experts! This information is every bit as important as the techniques themselves, and was hard to get unless you have world class athletes to train with, until now!

Grappling Knowledge has only been live for a few months but we’re working hard to become the premier grappling resource online! Our technique library is rapidly growing as is our list of excellent instructors. In the near future we’ll be adding MMA, Judo and Sambo! In our effort to continually improve the site we welcome your suggestions and ideas. Enjoy the site and train hard!
